Trying to locate information about friend's grandfather who was Russian soldier, POW in Germany, Berlin. He was liberated by Americans, post war escaped to Italy where he lived in a DP camp. I was able to find ship's manifest (1957 he and his Italian wife immigrated to USA) with his name on it and information, "Stateless #003888".
Out of all historians I would imagine somebody may be familiar where such information can be located and retrieved?

PS: Contacted German archives for Russian POWs, they were not much help sadly.
Try contacting Red Cross. At least the German one has a department to locate displaced persons (though, an immigrant, not being displaced anymore, might be outside of their purview, and more something for the U.S. immigration office).
