I'm looking for the best Japanese history books that go in depth about everything. I can read English and Japanese, money is not a problem, and I would like to read everything from 660 BC to now. If you could let me know of a reliable publisher or author, I would be really thankful
If you're interested at all in World War II, I would recommend two books that go in depth with the Japanese navy: David C. Evans' Kaigun and Parshall and Tully's Shattered Sword.
Embracing Defeat by John Dower is a fascinating look at what happened after WWII ended and the Americans occupied Japan, and how the people adjusted and adapted.
