Candles and fire management before the age of electricity. Were small fires common? What kind of etiquette or rules were common? How in an age of greater alcohol consumption did more fires not happen? Or did they? How did people fight small fires besides buckets of water?

Okay. How about the heavily populated and industrious London right before and after the fires of London on Tuesday, 4 September 1666. I would be curious if anything changed in the way candles themselves were handled after such a momentous fire.
