Were doctors retaliated at for killing/not saving/experimenting on their patients before modern medicine?

It would depend on the time you are talking about, the patients you are talking about and the situations the doctors and patients found themselves in. Very little would be done against a doctor who was conducting experiments on those of the lower class or slaves, but the same doctor would be strung up if he laid a wayward hand on a member of the moneyed class. There was a doctor mentioned in the book "Get Me Out" by Randi Hutter Epstein who used slave women to experiment on while he learned how to stitch vaginal tears. Everyone thought it a triumph when he succeeded, I assure you those women would not have thought him triumphant. So much depends on socioeconomic class and the time period you want to know about.
