I'm doing a project tracing attitudes towards prostitution through three time periods -- Old Babylonian, Sassanian or Parthian, and early Islamic. However, I'm having trouble finding sources for the middle bit. Anyone have any drop dead sources they'd be willing to share?
It sounds like you're working on a fascinating topic which I for one would love to know more about. A fairly current bibliography on the (late) Sassanian period can be found in Josef Wiesehöfer's contribution to vol. 1 of The New Cambridge History of Islam (2010). Note that if you have online access through your library, there is a separate pdf for the bibliography, and Wiesehöfer's article is chapter 3. I skimmed through, but didn't see much in terms of social history. There were some citations for works on courts, palaces, etc., which might have a few gems for you.
Another starting point might be the somewhat-dated Cambridge history of Iran, vol. 3, The Seleucid, Parthian and Sasanian periods (1983). Other places I'd look are Fowden's Before and After Muhammad (2014) and Donner's Muhammad and the Believers (2010), though I'm less certain these will have much to offer you.
