Is it possible that this is actually not the year 2014? Was there ever a period of time where the number of the year stopped being measured, so we had to recalculate it with estimates?

Basically, we have enough records of celestial events from the A.D portion of history to know exactly how many years have passed, even if we don't know much about the year.
