I would suggest Bill Bryson's "One Summer, America 1927." While strictly not a book exclusively dealing with aviation, as one of the main narrative threads deals with Lindbergh's solo crossing of the Atlantic, the state of American aviation in the interwar years is addressed in some detail, and might provide a jumping off point for suggesting other books to look into as Mr. Bryson is diligent in noting his bibliography.

The rest of the book deals with current events in America during the months of May-Sep 1927 and is a great read on those grounds. Not my favourite book by the author, but it delivers to his usual standard of good research balanced with anecdotal storytelling.
