You could say the Manson Family murders would fit this bill. "The Strangers" took some definite inspiration from them.

He built a "murder castle" in 1890's Chicago that was a hotel where 2 of the floors were converted into a maze of torture chambers and cells. He would pick out people (usually women but some men) then drug them and put them in a cell. He would then slowly torture them to death in the labyrinth he had created. Anywhere from 27 to 200 people died in this place. He would eventually leave Chicago when things started to get to hot for him, and he went on an international spree of murder, insurance fraud, kidnapping, faking his own death to elude the authorities, and other nefarious activities before finally being caught and hanged.
The Robert Pickton (the Coquitlam B.C. pig farm murderer) story probably wouldn't make a good slasher film plot because it was too bizarre to be believable. He attracted prostitutes to his suburban pig farm with crazy parties, and allegedly murdered and butchered his victims like hogs - and possibly mixed human flesh with pork meat and sold it to the public.
