Human Waste Manager in the Middle Ages

by YellowBrickChode

When I was in middle school my history teacher told us about a profession in middle ages (what specific period I don't know) England where men would roam the streets with a bucket and cape. You could pay these men to do your business in their bucket while they covered you with their cape. What was this profession called? This is what I was for Halloween and I didn't know what to call myself.

Did this profession really exist?

I found a clue! This is a slide from some powerpoint about poop. The problem is the .ppt doesn't cite what info is from where, just the books used.

It's in one of these books: ♦ Poop – A Natural History of the Unmentionable by Nicola Davies ♦ Gee Whiz – It’s All About Pee by Susan E Goodman ♦ The Truth About Poop by Susan E Goodman ♦ Tracks, Scats, and Signs by Leslie Dendy Exploratopia by Pat Murphy
