Catherine the Great had her Greek plan to attempt to revive the Roman-Byzantine Empire. Theoderic of the Ostrogoths wished to unify the Visigothic and Ostrogothic kingdoms into a new Roman(ic?) empire based in Ravenna. Benito Mussolini tried to create a New Roman Empire based in Italy and her colonial empire. Justinian captured huge pieces of land in an attempt to bring the Roman Empire (Byzantine) back to glory. Of course, none of these truely worked or lasted. So I was wondering if, aside from Catherine, Theoderic, Mussolini, Justinian and Mehmed II if there were any other serious attempts by anyone to create a new "Roman Empire". The H.R.E also counts in my question.
