Sorry if this is the wrong place, if it is can you point me where to go?
Most of what I've found is historical fiction and whilst it is enjoyable, I want something that has substance. Any recommendations, either books or historians?
I have read "Eleanor of Aquitaine" by Alison Weir.
It is a biography, not fiction, and it is pretty exhaustive; first published in 1999, so it his up to date. It is popular history, to be sure.
Keep in mind that Weir also wrote an historical fiction novel on Eleanor in 2010, called "The Captive Queen" - quite a different book.
Although not directly about Eleanor try, Georges Duby's Women of the Twelfth Century.
Also I am told that Alison Weir's Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life, is a very good book about her.
