Can any historians tell me anything more about this man? I've read basically everything on the net about him.
Most of what we know about him and many other philosophers comes from The Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers by Diogenes Laertius If you haven't read the book you should take the time to do so now. The book should be taken with a grain of salt because Diogenes Laertius seems much more concerned with telling a good story than with historical accuracy. But he does tell a very good story.
