*Meant this for World War 1 and 2, sorry for any confusion
Not only would a Muslim be in the same theatre of war, they would, or could, be in the same regiment, fighting alongside each other. Most Indian Army regiments would be recruited on a regional basis, for example, a Punjabi regiment would have companies within the battalion of Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims. Indian Officers, that is officers from India themselves, could be Sikh, Muslim or Hindu, and could command platoons, companies and battalions of men of different religions to themselves. A Hindu could, therefore, command a mixed battalion of Muslims and Hindus. Madras Regiments, like the famous Madras Sappers and Miners would contain significant numbers of Christians, as well as Hindus and Muslims.
