I have been trying to transcribe a probate inventory for my fenland family from the 16th century- a lot of inventories are available from Lincolnshire to view on lincs to the past. It shows a holding of cows, horses, oxen and crops , and also a boat- presumably useful transport at the time.

You can google quite a few references to riots in the Fens when the sluice gates and drains were broken down over the centuries until the final drainage in the 19th century.
