This source describes the affect of the Chernobyl disaster on agriculture. The biggest concern was for plants, animals, and animal products directly following the accident. Milk in some areas can still contain some levels of radiation, and somewhat recently there have been reports of high levels of radiation in the wild boar of Saxony, Germany.
As far as the ability to feed themselves, I am not sure.
