I've been spending my free time lately watch Ken Burns docs on Netflix. I'm now watching "The War" (for at least the 6th time), an I'm curious if there is a similar documentary about the war in the eastern front. Preferably in English, or at least English subtitles.
I am afraid I have never seen anything by Ken Burns yet but I have watched a series that I believe you might be interested in.
It's called Soviet Storm in the East, a Russian made and English (UK) dubbed 18 part series that covers the war from Barbarossa to Japan. Information is portrayed completely by the narrator and there are no interviews. It uses a mix of real war video and photos, live action acting and CGI with plenty of maps.
I found it enjoyable, the entire thing is on YouTube, here is episode one and here is the playlist. I urge you to give it a try.
Not sure if this is something you would be interested in but there is an excellent multi part audio podcast entitled "Ghosts of the Ostfront" by Dan Carlin from his excellent Hardcore History feed. Not sure if you can still download it free of charge but even if you have to spend a couple of bucks it will be money well spent, I promise.
EDIT Just checked and it's $5.99 for all four parts. It's a good price for what you'll get.
Saw this on Netflix yesterday, there is a PBS doc called Secrets of the Dead: Deadliest Battles. It's about the Nazi invasion of Soviet Union in 1941.
Haven't seen any Ken Burns films but "War of the Century" is a great one. It has a lot of interviews from veterans from the Russian and German side. If you google it you can find it on Daily motion.
