I know this is pretty vague, but I'm wondering how many casualties of war can be accounted for on U.S. soil after the end of the Civil War. I don't want to put too many constraints or limit the definition of this in fear of getting no answer, but I guess I'm thinking:
Civilian or Armed forces
Caused by foreign armed forces
In the 48-50 states, not territories or occupied areas
After the end of the Civil War up until now (or up to 1994, according to rules if need-be - though I'd rather extend it if at all possible)
I'm also not sure if I should include events like Pearl Harbor (technically not apart of the United States at the time) or September 11 (casualties, but not sure if this would be considered during war). So, I'll leave it up to those that answer whether or not to include Pearl Harbor, September 11 or other similar events.
I'm not looking for specific dates or anything. Just a number with a few details here and there.

I assume you are referring to US Military casualties, or to US citizen casualties, so here's my answer for those categories: There are several ways of counting this, the biggest contributor is the Indian Wars, which can be hard to accurately tabulate. However, there are several sources. The Census Bureau released several lists in 1894, with lists of casualties for both sides between 1790-1890, here
It is hard to calculate casualties in the Indian Wars for several reasons, not the least being that record keeping was shoddy, the line was blurred in many cases between enemy Native American warriors and civilians, as well as numerous atrocities committed along the frontiers by soldier and civilian alike. However, the number seems to be around the 500 range for soldiers killed in action during the Indian Wars, from 1860 onward.
