I think Airborne portion of the Normandy invasion would be a pretty obvious example, delivering 13,100 troops via parachute is pretty impressive. Though it wasn't the first Airborne Operation undertaken it was certainly one of if not the most successful airborne operations ever undertaken. They were able to disrupt German operations prior to the beach landings and were instrumental in gaining victory on June 6th even if they did not accomplish all of their objectives.
