Frogman Training in WWII

by WhoH8in

So my cousin dug up an old photo of my grandfather from WWII taken sometime after september of 1942. He was a frogman who landed on Okinawa but I don't know much else about what he may have done or what UDT he may have been a part of. I've scoured the internet trying to find info on frogmen and there is sadly very little. If there is anyone out there who is familiar with their training and service history that would be great. Specifically I'm looking for what teams he may have been a part of in Okinawa and generally where he would have trained, whether it be in the Chesapeake Bay or in Hawaii and what that entailed. I really doubt he was one of the original frogmen since he only participated in Okinawa and none f the earlier landings.

Thanks.

My grandfather was also a frogman in WWII and my family has not had much success finding any information regarding his services records or deployments. The most we know is he was a frogman and served in the Pacific. We know he was involved in Iwo Jima and on to Japan. There is a tale of his group doing recon on Hiroshima after the bombing and I believe it is true from what he described to my grandmother. My mother even contacted the Navy but they were not much help.
