Where did this coin surface? What does the coin say?

by [deleted]

I have a friend who posted to me images in regards to the coin he purchased in Turkey while serving active duty.

Here's two of the images he shared. Could anyone shed light on the coin?

In fact, I have so far figured out that the letterings are Greek, some Hebraic but the guy on the coin side 1 looks like Alexander the Great to me though I could be wrong.

Could anyone actually verify the authenticity of the coin and to point me in the right direction?

/r/coins and /r/ancientcoins might be better places to ask.

It's a Byzantine coin. The condition of the coin is a bit too good, making me think that it's likely a reproduction. It could be real though, ancient coins are constantly popping up of the ground so they are not exactly rare.
