I have poured through a lot of American works that looked at American-Cuban, American-USSR and a bit of Cuban-USSR relations but not a whole lot of representation of what Nikita Khrushev's motivations might have been. Could you recommend any articles.
Edit: I should probably mention what I have encountered the Wilson Institution which has quite a few letters between Cuba and the USSR. Unfortunately they are either in Russian or Spanish. If anyone knows any

This book is great: Sergo Mikoyan, ed. Svetlana Savranskaya, The Soviet Cuban Missile Crisis: Castro, Mikoyan, Kennedy, Khrushchev, and the Missiles of November (Stanford University Press, 2012). Recently came out in paperback. Best source out there, currently.
It should be noted that even the US "perspective" was somewhat different than how it has been often represented.
