The only people anywhere in the Americas with any form of written history before Europeans arrived were the Maya. Thet had extensive arrays of historical monuments and engraved texts that tell us precise dates for everything from royal births to wars to year-end celebrations. Other accounts are primarily oral histories, which in the strictest sense still makes them pre-historic. We do have written records of these histories from the early colonial period. From Souther America specifically, Guaman Poma's Nueva Coronica complies the history of the Inca kings, as learned from various interviews and similar investigations.
