Longer answer: Saurr is mentioned as the dog of King Eysteinn illi (the Wicked) of Oppland in both Hversu Noregi byggst and Heimskringla. The story goes that once Eysteinn conquered Trondheim, he sent his son Önundr to rule over it. The populace didn't like that so they revolted and killed Önundr. Once that was put down, Eysteinn gave them the option of having either his dog or one of his slaves run the show; they chose the dog, reasoning that they would be rid of him sooner.

They were.

After three years of regal treatment - gold collars, pawprint decrees, etc. - a wolf got into Saur's kennel and killed him.

Both Hversu and the early part of Heimskrigla are legendary, and as such should in no way be taken as fact.
