I work as freelance videographer in the detroit area and I happen to get a job from the Pentagon, through a mutual friend to film, William Cook, who was one of the first black marines in America, because he was receiving the Congressional Gold Medal. He went to tell a story about his time in Iwo Jima. He said that the ship they were sailing on had "classified" equipment on it. He said that they had to wait outside of the island for days until the rest of the army had it cleared and then they left and it was only the black marines on there. After awhile on the island, he said that the enola gay came and landed, his commanding unit said they just had to refuel it, but he remembers people the "classified" cargo they had onto it. I asked if he thought it was the atomic bomb, he said yes. Funny story is that after that, I had to give the footage straight to the Pentagon and they have since "lost it". I have looked for any information about the Montford Point Marines actually being the ones to transport and load the atomic bomb, but have found no evidence of it, could it be a true story, would America send the first all black marine group to handle and transport the atomic bomb?
It smells a little fishy. The Little Boy bomb was delivered to Tinian on the [USS Indianapolis](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Indianapolis_(CA-35)) in July 1945. The bomb was not loaded on to the Enola Gay for several days. It was delivered in pieces, not as a finalized bomb. It took days to fully assemble. It was not even delivered as a single bomb — lots of spare casings/parts/equipment were delivered, though the nuclear core for only one bomb was delivered. Tinian was never evacuated to deliver the bomb. Etc.
As for the Pentagon, there would be nothing classified about this if it were true. If the question is whether the Pentagon could truly be that incompetent, I think you know the answer. :-)
Considering that the Enola Gay took off from Tinian, one of the Marianas Islands not Iwo Jima ("509th Timeline: Inception to Hiroshima". The Atomic Heritage Foundation. May 5, 2007.), and the Montford Point Marines were split into the 51st and 52nd Composite Defense Battalions, I'd say odds are its a load of crap. Marine defense battalions were USMC battalions charged with coastal defense of some of the naval bases in the Pacific during World War II. They maintained anti-ship guns, anti-aircraft guns, and small arms to repel landing forces. And the 51st and 52nd were deployed to outlying islands, away from the fighting (Source)
