Considering that many ecologists and nutritionists are now championing insects as a new, sustainable "superfood" and source of protein, why is it, exactly, that Western culture finds the consumption of bugs taboo? Was it historically difficult to raise insects for consumption in Europe? Are the insects native to Europe less efficient than the "standard" livestock that makes up most of the western diet's meat?
