The two teams both moved from the same market (New York) to the same state (California) in the same year (1957, I think). Why then are these two teams - similar in terms of the circumstances of their relocations - remembered so differently?
What are the underlying reasons that explain why the loss of the Dodgers is remembered so bitterly? Why is the loss of the Giants is more or less treated indifferently? Did it have anything to do with the virtues of Ebbets Field when compared to the Polo Grounds? Did the ethnic makeup of each team's fanbase differ? Did the effects of white flight and urban renewal in northern Manhattan as compared to Brooklyn play any part?
Alternatively, is Dodgers-nostalgia overplayed in contemporary culture? Did anyone actually care when they moved?
