During WWII, were there any "rules" against bombing shelters or ships with a red cross on it?

Those circumstances would be covered by the Geneva Convention of 1929, an expansion on the Convention of 1906 to rectify deficiencies made apparent after WW1. Transports under the Red Cross emblem were already protected by that time, and similarly it added recognition of Red Crescent and Red Lion and Sun emblems in the same regard.
