When they say xenophobia what exactly do them mean and who was it directed to? Was it directed to a particular culture or group of people? And why did or do Greek people have so much dislike for strangers?
A point worth making here is that the Ottomans were not a Greek people. They were a Sunni Islamic sultanate, and then later a caliphate, which became an Empire in 1453 following the conquest of Constantinople. It was founded by Oghuz Turks, who were originally from the Aralic plains.
An indigenous Ottoman would not have thought of himself as a Greek person, they were Ottoman Turks. Neither would a person from Byzantium, for them they Romanoi, the Eastern Roman Empire, and a continuation of the Empire that fell in the west in 476CE.
