It seems that early firearms were inaccurate unreliable and slow. How was it that they so quickly replaced the bow? It seems like the would both be used in mass for zone fire, with the bow being able to fire faster.

I understand that early firearms have an armored piercing capability which is a good argument supporting firearms, but then why is it that bows never made a comeback when armies stopped using armor on general infantry, such as in revolutionary times? I feel that an army armed with bows would devastate enemy formations armed with muskets firing at 3 shots per minute.
