I have been looking at many photos of German soldiers in WW2, however I am unable to identify which units they belong to. I have noticed that they don’t seem to have many patches or identifying logos clearly visible. How can I identifying which unit a soldier is from?
I can identify if they are Luftwaffe, Heer or Kriegsmarine, however beyond that I am really struggling. I am trying to identify soldiers/vehicles from the 5th Infantry Division (later Jäger Division), but am quite clueless on this so far.
I believe that the collar had different colours/designs but in black and white photos this isn't very helpful.
