The title is the main question. I can't really find anything about how important his cabinet was to him, and so I guess I'll ask here, if this is the right place. I just need to know how often his cabinet influenced his decision making, if they even ever had a say in what he did.
Generally it appear that FDR used his cabinet very little beyond official roles, James MacGregor Burns argued that he generally bypassed decision collective decision making processes such as the cabinet and congress, preferring individuals ideas. Indeed he had trouble finding people to fill his first cabinet.
Most of his strategies came from advisors in the form a "Brain Trust", a proto think tank that are so prevalent in todays politics.
