Does time have history?

by uniacc

A random thought came to me, and it was about time. I started thinking about how its an absolute fundamental part of our society. It is now a worldwide phenomenon. However, it hasn't always been like that, and it got me thinking about whether Time itself had a history. So my question is, as said in the title, does Time have history?

Could you maybe narrow the focus of your question? I can think of several possible ways to take this:

  • How has time been measured (clocks, hour glasses, sun dials, etc.)
  • How have people broken up time (24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, etc.)
  • Time and the study of time in science
  • Societal conceptions of time

There probably more ways that someone could take your question. If you narrow things down a bit then someone may be better able to answer.

You may also want to check out this section of the FAQ on Calendars and Timekeeping to see if that answers any questions.

Hope that helps!
