How would we know? It's not like we have any unbiased sources, both Tacitus and Suetonius hate Nero's guts (and Tacitus doesn't really care about Nero's artistic side anyway).

Suetonius writes that people simulated their own death during Nero's singing performances so they would be carried out of the otherwise locked down theater. Are you going to trust this information?

Personally, I'd only trust Suetonius where he says something positive about Nero (e.g. that he composed the poetry that was published under his name himself) because the overall gist of his work is to exaggerate Nero's negative traits to the point of ridiculousness.
"Two families from the gens Domitia shone brightly, the bald-heads and the red-beards." - that's how Suetonius begins his Vita Neronis and it sets the tone for what is to follow. The gens that Nero was born into was already such that bald heads and red beards were the best it could muster and Nero still managed to outperform his ancestors by uniting every single negative trait they showed in his own person.
