Colleges in the American sense didn't exist in much of Eastern Bloc, you'd either complete a vocational school or a 4-5 year university. You wouldn't have to look for a job - if you finished a teaching course, for example, you'd automatically be employed at school, sometimes you'd have to relocate. Due to ideological reasons, factory workers, for instance, were paid as well as doctors.

Men and women were treated very differently, both in political and household sense. Poland was and is quite catholic, but even Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia expected women to eventually marry and have children.

In 1980s Poland moved away from private parties and meetings, and clubs with recorded music started to appear. More people were able to afford TVs, and therefore long lines in front of cinema got shorter. It's worth noting that martial law in Poland since 1981 closed many of these, and a lot of entertainers who weren't banned refused to perform.
