I think the book did a very good job of giving me back story on the french revolution, and napoleon's rise, all as they related to Alex Dumas (father of the author of the count of Monte Cristo, and the three musketeers) but I want to make sure that what I read can be counted on as accurate. I have used it to help me explain the three estates in pre-Napoleonic France, and I am just looking to make sure I am not giving out false information, or partial truths.
I would take it with a grain of salt. A basic search showed that Reiss has no formal background in history. This, of course, does not mean that he can't write and understand history. However, he does not have the training that history major get in order to interpret sources, both primary and secondary, judge the legitimacy of a source, learn how to minimize biases, go over basic historiography, etc.
If you are reading this for fun then I would not worry too much about it, but I would not use it in a research paper.
