Who was the first European to land in mainland America?

by Vladith

As far as I know, the Norse are not confirmed to have landed anywhere in North America besides Baffin Island, Labrador, and Newfoundland, which are all islands. Columbus landed in the Caribbean.

Who was the first European to reach the Americas proper?

Labrador is not an island. It is part of the mainland of North America. It is highly likely to have been landed on by the Norse.

Columbus landed on Caribbean islands on his first and second voyages, but on his third voyage he landed on the coast of South America, and on his fourth voyage he landed on the coast of Central America.
