Is There Any Evidence Of Religion In Bronze Age Hoards?

by [deleted]

What evidence survives to suggest that Bronze Age people practised religion; specifically through findings of Hoards or Rock art? Thanks!

Hmmm... well, to answer your question as written; in the near east specifically the Bronze Age is considered to span the period roughly from c.3000 BCE to c. 1200. This includes many cultures who's religion is very well documented, such as ancient Egypt, the ancient Mesopotamian civilizations, the Hittites, the Mycenaean Greeks, etc. All of these ancient religions and the evidence for them are well attested in sources such as temples, tombs, inscriptions and surviving literature among others. I wont go into detail here as more information can be found in the FAQs or in books suggested in the book list.

I will ask about your question though. From your mention of "rock art" it sounds like you're interested in a period earlier than the bronze age, perhaps the neolithic or even paleolithic. Is that the case?
