Why were northern Asian tribes more successful warriors and conquerors than southeast Asian and African tribes?

Why is it that Northern Asians like the Mongols, Khitans, Jurchens, Huns, Xiongnu, Turks, and Seljuks all have long histories of conquest and warfare, yet southeast Asian tribes do not? You never hear about the conquests of countries like Vietnam.

I'm not sure what you mean, since the history of SEA countries is just as full of conquest. (The kingdoms of Sukhothai, for example, or Ayutthaya, or Majapahit.) Are we talking about scale?
