I may be able to answer some of these questions but I need you to clarify something first. Are you talking about early anatomically modern humans or neanderthals? I ask this because there is a common misconception that neanderthals were our direct ancestors, which is not the case. Anatomically modern humans and neanderthals (from what we know) behaved quite differently so my answer will depend on what exactly you mean.
