I was thinking about it before, iraq, vietnam, both unsuccessful examples of america trying to dismantle an insurgency, when america pulls out of Afghanistan, the taliban will re-take over. Are there any examples of a government successfully dismantling an insurgency?
There are plenty. I've written about this plenty of times before, but one case I want to refer you to in particular is the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960) which is usually seen as the textbook example of a successful counterinsurgency in modern warfare.

Wouldn't the American Civil War be an example of this?
