I see no one has yet commented, so I'll just go ahead. I only know what you could find in Yugoslavia, de facto NATO associate, while still a socialist one party federation. A usual family consisted of parents with 5+ children, if we're speaking of rural settlements. House itself was covered by clay tile covering in the mediterranean region (~80km inland), sort of like you see in Italy still today. Houses in the Alps or Dinaric mountains were covered with wooden tiles, and lowland houses outside larger towns were covered with straws. The cooking in the kitchen was usually done on wood-burning stoves, many times still lacking a chimney (so-called black kitchen). A radio was a frequent gadget found, with televisions being still very rare. Other tools were usually manually operated, decoration was usually minimal, with one corner of the dining room usually containing a ledge with a christian cross or virgin Mary statue on it. Some houses used rugs on the walls as decor as well as for insulation. Most of the farming at the time (plowing) was done with animal power, although some villagers owned pre-war motorised equipment. I know that Yugoslavia wasn't exactly what you were looking for (Poland, Romania, Belarus, Russia, etc.) but I suspect they weren't much poorer, Yugoslavia managed to really surpass Eastern block in terms of wealth by the 1960's.
