In the medieval era, around Henry v times, as short as possible. Get the image out of you head that knights in armour would spend 20-30 mins smashing at each other. Fights (in armour) rarely exceeded 1min. Fights otherwise would be considered long if it lasted 10 seconds. BTW this is all on a battle field, in an arena style sword fight fights could last longer.
