I found this Japanese flag in a box in my grandfather's attic; he was in the US Navy from 1940 - late 60's. I'm curious if anyone here can shed some light on what it is or what it says.

First off, it's upside down in the picture :P
Second of all, it's just a standard Japanese battle flag. The words on it are primarily well wishes and signatures of people, much like one would write on a cast when someone has a broken arm.
