How similar was a Soviet soldiers experience in Afghanistan to a US soldier, and did the Soviets document rates of PTSD among their troops following the war?

/u/Bernardito already linked to what I was going to link to! You can find a pretty in-depth look at the Soviet experience here. I would just add that documentation of Soviet PTSD rates is quite iffy, I spent a lot of time looking through various journals trying to find information, and everything out there is pretty vague. I found reference to studies in Russian that might be more in depth, but I don't have access to them. So all we can say is that there was absolutely PTSD, and that what evidence we do have shows the Soviets did a very poor job dealing with it. As an anecdotal aside, my GF's cousin served there, and apparently has never talked about his experience with anyone, and refuses to if asked, so what literature on the subject I have read comports with my own limited experience personally.
