If you want a good read that isn't too technical, Thomas j Friedman of the NYT wrote a great book called "from Beirut to Jerusalem" that covers the war with Lebanon in the 80s up to the first intifada. If you're looking for information on the various human rights abuses, or just the lives of Palestinians in general, "the question of Palestine" by Edward Said is wonderful, as is "the Palestinians" by Cheryl Rubenberg. The most objective of the three is the one by tom friedman, because he offers justifications for Israeli actions in a few instances while condemning the bad stuff they did. Edward Said was a palestinian author who died in 2003. Excellent writer and very important in the social sciences. He even set up a youth orchestra consisting of both israelis and palestinians. Rubenberg is a jewish academic who seems to be very passionate about human rights. It all depends on what you're looking to hear. My interests are in indigenous rights and anti imperialist struggles, so the books I read have a pro Palestinian slant. However I'm sure there are plenty of good books by Zionist writers that make a convincing argument, as much as I'd disagree with it. Its hard to be neutral when discussing a conflict such as this one.
