When looking at the table of years in which countries allowed women to vote it seemed like the years were clumping together. I plotted a CDF of them and it looks like there are several decades between 1910 and 1960 where the rate of women's voting right adoption changed from the previous decades.
Is this a real pattern? Can it be attributed to any global events in particular? For example, are they simply explained as the result of worldwide coordination of suffragists? If so, then what explains the change in the rate of change?
This is a CDF plot of the "Year women first voted at national level" column on this wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_suffrage. When there were multiple years, the first year was taken.
A question which immediately came to me is whether the countries were new states formed in the aftermath of the world wars or states which adopted new constitutions following liberation. I know that happened in Ireland's case.
