I think the best way to understand Egypt is to also study the other nations that surrounded and influenced her. After all How much of american history can you know if you dont know about her English, Spanish, French, German or native american routes. Does anyone know any legitimate documentaries or informative videos about Babylon, Assyria, Canaan, Nubians, the Akkadians or any of those other ancient bronze age or older civilizations that shared the same area or existed around the same time or earlier then what we would call egypt?
Naturally the response to this question would depend on the time period. Egypt has a long, storied history and faced many different rulers/neighboring empires that they've had different relationships with.
I don't know of any documentaries or videos, but a good place to start if you'd like more information regarding Egyptian diplomacy in the ancient Near East, I recommend reading up on the Amarna Letters. These were official correspondences between various Mesopotamian rulers, many of which were directed at and discovered in Egypt. Its interesting to see them refer to each other as "brother," which means they recognize they're both son of the Gods. And there are some instances where some rulers publicly refuse to acknowledge some state's ruler's divinity or legitimacy - a good indication of relations at the time
