Did Booker T. Washington really complain about "people who do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs"?

A great quote, but I am suspicious of it because it just seems too perfect of a fit for current controversies. Is it true? If so, where was it said?

It seems so. Here http://docsouth.unc.edu/fpn/washeducation/washing.html you can find the full book My Larger Education: Being Chapters From my Experiences by Booker T. Washington and on page 118 you'll find the quote.

It can also apparently be found in The Booker T. Washington Papers by Booker T. Washington, Vol. 1, pg. 430, edited by Louis R. Harlan, published by Univ. of Illinois Press in 1972 . The work has a whole bunch of reviews on JSTOR so I'm guessing it has some merit.
