When you have multiple wives and concubines, you can end up with many, many descendants. It's like with the Thai royal family -- King Bhumipol Adulyadej's father was polygamous, as were earlier kings, so while he and his wife have not had very many children, he has many half-brothers, half-sisters, cousins, and so on.
