Is it true that Yahweh was chosen from a pantheon of gods?

It seems it would be foolish to think monotheism was always there. I want to learn about the details if it's cool with you.

I saw this video and became curious about it, did he make any valid points or is it all mumbo jumbo?

My understanding is that monotheism among Israelites evolved as a single god was preferred over the others but at what point did they fully discard the others and accepted Yahweh as the one?

Also follow up question to clear things up; How did monotheism evolve among the Israelites?

Karen Armstrong is definitely reputable as a redactor of biblical history. I learned about the sources (J, E, etc.) at a Conservative Jewish day school - it's called the Documentary Hypothesis, put forth most famously by Julius Wellhausen, and it's essentially the basis of all modern biblical scholarship.

Richard Friedman's Who Wrote the Bible? (ISBN 9780060630355) is a good place to start from, in terms of the sources. And the sources most certainly point to a polytheistic origin of Judaism.
